Diana's quilts are truly gems that reflect her fine artistic vision and exquisite workmanship.  We have collected quite a few wall hangings over the years and have received many compliments from visitors asking about this amazing artist! Our favorites include a landscape designed from a photograph of a favorite family vacation spot, geometric patterns with colors that were customized to match our decor, and gorgeous flower quilts with embellishments such as sparkling beads and gold thread. Diana is also my go-to person when it comes to gifts for special occasions including wedding showers (rope baskets), scarves, weddings gifts, (quilted baskets, table runners), graduation gifts (lap quilts), rope bowls, trivets and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs (challah covers). All of these items can be personified with names, dates, quotes, blessings, etc.  Our most recent Bat Mitzvah gift was considered "her best gift" by the recipient. I feel very strongly that a quilt designed by Diana will always be treasured and add a special touch to any home decor. As Diana continues to learn new techniques and experiment with new designs, I'm afraid that we will be adding to our collection!

My sister Diana Galson-Kooy is a dynamic artist and a very hard worker. I have admired her artistry as I have watched it develop over many years. She continuously learns and applies new techniques in fabric, and in many other materials.  She works hard to make sure her customer's desires are matched with a high quality product of lasting beauty.
Diana completes commissions with flair. I have experienced this personally, while contributing toward a quilt in honor of a niece's wedding that reflected the couple's tastes and desires; she honored our grandmother with "picture quilts" for the whole family. For me she transformed a shawl that belonged to our grandmother into a beautiful tallit, with its own bag, and recreated one of my treasured (and crumbling) blouses. She designed and created a stunning piece of ritual art in honor of my own wedding.
Take a look at the range of her work....everything is beautiful!

I had always admired the art of quilt making and wanted to make a quilt myself but did not know how, until I took lessons from Diana.
Diana is a talented quilt maker and teacher who has a passion for all aspects of quilt making. Each lesson in quilt making takes you on a journey dedicated to creating a unique and personal work of art.
Upon completion of your quilt making lessons you will own a beautiful quilt that you will be proud to display for family and friends to enjoy. Additionally, taking quilting lessons helps one understand that to create something great takes many steps requiring dedication, skill and creativity.

"Diana Galson-Kooy was commissioned by some family members to create a wall hanging as a gift for our wedding in 2011. After carefully consulting with us about what we might like--the colors, the symbolism--she created a stunning piece, a Sh'viti that now hangs over our mantel--A Tree of Life shaped around the four Hebrew letters of the unpronounceable name of God. We treasure it daily!"

“This table runner is a piece of art. Custom made, using some of my own upholstery fabrics, it perfectly complements my decor, coordinating the dining room with the adjacent living room. The workmanship is beautiful, too.”

Testimonials

“I knew the minute I saw the warm earth tones of this quilt (displayed in a larger size at an arts and craft festival) that it would make a perfect holiday gift for my mother-in-law.  When I mentioned that the quilt might be a bit too large for her they immediately offered to make a smaller one with the same fabrics and basic design.  Within a month, this beautiful quilt was completed.
My mother-in-law was delighted when she opened her gift and discovered this unique and beautifully handcrafted piece!  Now I find myself thinking about who will be my next relative or friend to receive a DK Threads masterpiece!”
Susie T., Needham,Massachusetts

We received a baby quilt from DKthreads when our daughter Olivia was born and it was the most special and thoughtful surprise! Olivia is now 20 months old and has cherished the quilt through every developmental milestone - from just looking at the bright and beautiful colors as a newborn, to resting and crawling on the soft material as an infant, to now identifying the patterns and shapes as a toddler. It will continue to be a beloved keepsake for many years to come!

“My wife, Rachel, fell in love with Diana's wall hanging "The Wintry One," and announced that she had found her birthday present! Rachel felt that the black and white quilt would look great in her piano teaching studio, but wanted the border to be warmed with a bit more color and shading. Diana easily intuited my wife's ideas and beautifully realized them into the finished quilt.”

DK Threads worked with us very patiently and diligently to design a magnificent quilt that  is the centerpiece of our elderly housing’s fireplace computer room and lounge,  the Faulkner Room. DK Threads gave us many options and worked with us closely on colors and fabrics. The quilt  has a number of images of highlights of our building and community including our residents exercising and even one of David Ortiz hitting a homerun on our big screen TV.  We are thrilled with the end result and so proud of it.  We would highly recommend  DK Threads to anyone wanting a very special quilt. We are constantly getting  getting compliments.Your beautiful quilt adds a special additional touch of beauty to Salem Towers for the residents to enjoy in the years ahead.

“WOW. That is all I can say.  Wow.
My sister flew in today and after a VERY brief hug outside arrivals, I immediately opened the quilt.  I got to see this beautiful tribute to my mom's life.  Her legacy.  Seeing my daughter's reaction as she explained each of the squares and why they were chosen for her Nana was itself a gift.
Thank you for the artistic talent and love you put into this piece.”

"When I started taking quilting lessons with Diana I was an experienced sewer but had never made a quilt. I had attended a local quilt show and was blown away by the beauty of the creations. It struck me that I could and should be doing this. When I started working with Diana she was a warm acquaintance and in no time she became a true friend. Just as important, she taught me the basics and she did it very well. Another thing about Diana was that she really conveyed enthusiasm for quilting. Even though her work was gorgeous, incredible, she was always taking classes to learn more and more. You never stop learning, I could see. So for anybody who wants to learn how to quilt, I say go to Diana! She’s the best!"

“DK Threads skills are not just quilting. From my experience, they are storytellers. You present your idea –in my case the story of my first 20 marathons -- and trust them to guide you. Together we journeyed step by step to pull all the disparate memories and pieces together. It was unbelievable several months later when I unveiled this marathon quilt-- with my racing numbers, finishers’ medals, photos, T-shirts and even mylar blankets -- to my running friends the night before the Boston Marathon.
Don't be surprised if your chest fills with emotion and your eyes with tears when you see all the pieces of your story captured this way.  I never thought that could come from some fabric, thread and a tale that was ready to be told. “
Brian G., Boston, Massachusetts

“After the death of my husband, I found my nine-year-old daughter wrapped in one of his old shirts and immediately thought of the comfort a quilt made of her father’s clothing would provide to her.  DK Threads created the quilt, allowing my children to be part of the process as well, from selecting items of clothing to choosing their location on the quilt.  The final quilt is magnificently crafted and is a piece of functional art work that we cherish.  We are very appreciative of the efforts of DK Threads.”

Parkinson’s Community Project
The mission of the Charlotte and Richard Okonow Parkinson’s Family Support program is to improve quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s disease, care partners, adult children, and friends. The program has touched and enriched the lives of hundreds of people through education, engagement with the arts and the creation of community. Thanks to a rich collaboration with DK Threads, Jewish Family & Children’s Service proudly displays our Parkinson’s Community Quilt in the agency’s Waltham headquarters. Twenty people participated in making a quilt square to describe an aspect of their relationship with Parkinson’s disease. The rich visual imagery and the poignant stories which unfolded during this process are a testament to the tenacity, creativity, and bravery of all who engaged in the project.
Working with DK Threads to conceptualize and create the quilt was seamless and inspiring from beginning to end. With deep insight and sensitivity, she helped each participant give visual voice to their authentic personal story. Beyond that, she shaped the experience of creating the quilt to be a truly inspired community effort.
With DK Threads' help, the quilt has come to represent the profound therapeutic power of creativity and the transformative energy we gain from sharing with others. Diana stitched with her hands and heart to weave our stories, ideas, joys and sorrows into this magnificent and deeply moving quilt.

“I can't tell you how much we love the beautiful challah cover you made for our 50th anniversary. I've never seen anything like it. It's so creative and beautifully done. Thank you for all the work you put into it. We will use it with great pleasure as it adds holiness to our home.”
Carol and Bob H.,  Newton, Massachusetts

“DK Threads created a quilt for me from fabrics that I wore and was given as gifts while a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. DKthreads listened carefully to what I wanted. and throughout the process sent me pictures of the quilt’s progress, seeking my input on different ideas.  Their ability to turn a bag of discordant, bright, and very meaningful fabric into something so beautiful is a testament to their great talent. I cannot thank DKThreads enough for creating a piece of art that preserves a special time in my life. My memory quilt is truly a treasure."
